Leaving Cardiff we drive eastwards and cross the famous Severn Bridge taking in the ever changing scenery as we make our journey to the historic city of Bath. In recognition of its beauty and history, Bath is designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is home to some of the finest architectural sights in Europe. Some of these include the famous Pulteney Bridge and Bath Abbey where the first King of England was crowned in 973AD. Other iconic attractions are the 2,000 year old Roman Baths, filled with ancient mystical artefacts and thermal water that still steams today and the Jane Austen Centre celebrating Bath’s most famous literary resident. With an abundance of shopping areas, offering independent retail outlets as well as high street brands, as well as many and varied eating places, Bath provides a unique experience to be treasured.
From Bath we drive to the village of Lacock famous for its abbey, picturesque streets, historic buildings and more recently as a film location. It was at Lacock Abbey that William Henry Fox Talbot took the very first photographic negative in 1835 and where a museum is dedicated to his contributions to the invention of photography. You can even get the chance to stand on the very spot where history was made, next to the famous latticed window that features in the first ever negative.
We then leave Lacock and drive westwards over the Severn Bridge and return to Wales to the spot where the day began.
