Roam Wales takes you to the homeland of famous Welsh Superstars within the South Wales area.

Today’s tour takes us to the parts of Wales that inspired Welsh Superstars as they grew up.

We start the day with a visit to the area of the childhood days of Dame Shirley Bassey. Known today as Cardiff Bay, Shirley grew up in an area of Cardiff known as Tiger Bay. Born in 1937 Shirley was the youngest of seven children. During the day she worked at a local factory but earned extra money singing in local workingmens club. Made a Dame in 2000 and now lives in Switzerland.

We leave Cardiff Bay, and with a drive through the city we pass Cardiff Castle, and head for Pontypridd - the birthplace of Sir Tom Jones. In Pontypridd we visit the house where Tom was born and also the house he grew up in taking in a visit to the place he made his first public appearance.

We continue our journey and motor further up the valley passing through the home town of the world famous Treorchy Male Voice choir, over the Bwlch mountain travelling through the Afan Valley and into the small mining village of Pontrhydyfen set high in the valley of the river Afan. The birthplace of RICHARD BURTON. Here we explore the small village that gave us probably one of the greatest Welsh actors whose live was cut tragically short by a cerebral hemorrhage at his home in Switzerland in 1984.

Further down the valley we visit Margam an area on the outskirts of the steel town of Port Talbot birthplace of living legend SIR ANTHONY HOPKINS considered to be one of film’s greatest living actors. Famous for his portrayal of Hannibal Lector in the film Silence of the Lambs he became an  American citizen in April 2000  and in 2003 received a star on "The Hollywood Walk of Fame" Further information on this famous actor can be found on http://www.anthonyhopkinsmovies.com/home/biography

For our final visit of the day takes us to Swansea and the birthplace of Wales’ greatest poet DYLAN THOMAS. Here we visit the centre dedicated to him and visit the house where Dylan was born ,we experience the surroundings that inspired him. Born in Swansea died in New York but known the world over..
